Happy New Year to all the SiKOD readers!!

I made a career switch from STMicroelectronics flash memory group to AMD as a foundry interface in June this year. I am part of the on-site AMD team to provide technical and logistic support in facilitating AMD 90nm and 65nm microprocessor production at Chartered Fab 7. From Aug-Oct, I went to Austin and Dresden for a brief two month attachment. It is indeed brief from AMD tradition as a typical attachment period is usually 3 months to 2 year. Nevertheless, this attachment is an eye-opening experience and I have learned a lot about AMD and microprocessor. I am happy to come back home early to live with my family. My current job is even more globalized than my previous job in STM. Our on-site team have to work closely with our Germany and US colleagues, as well as local Chartered Fab 7 folks. I feel honored and humbled to work with all these semiconductor professionals.

I have picked up a new passion this year. I got an idea to aggregate all semiconductor news in one place based on rss technology in early 2006. I started to implement this idea on my own website in May. I also started my own blog on this website to provide commentaries on current semiconductor news. I am truly amazed how much web design and internet knowledge I have picked up along the way. There is certainly much more to learn as I continue this passion.

Wish you all the best in 2007 and good health!!

Crolles2 alliance is a partnership created in 2002 in Crolles, France by STMicroelectronics, Philips, Freescale and TSMC, with a goal to collaborate in the research, development and industrialization of CMOS process technologies — begun at 90-nm and ultimately attaining a 32-nm node. The sheer size of the Crolles2 alliance was once touted as comparable to the other similar industrial alliance formed initially by IBM with Chartered Semiconductor, later with Samsung and Infineon at Fishkill, NewYork. However, since 2006, both Philips (now NXP) and Freescale have been acquired by several equity firms and went private, the Crollles2 alliance is now facing a severe membership attrition and a possible falling apart. NXP and TSMC have already opted out from the Crolles2 alliance, while Freescale has also been the subject of similar talk. In contrast, the IBM club membership has enlarged significantly with Samsung and Infineon coming on board. According to a report from AFX News LTD, STMicroelectronics is trying to woo IBM into the Crolles2 alliance. However, given that IBM alliance is a stronger club now, the Crolles2 alliance and IBM alliance may likely merge into one big family.
